How Page Experience Update will Affect Site Ranking?

Google will begin its page experience update as part of the ranking system from mid-June 2021. Previously it was scheduled for November 2020.

But now, in an announcement, Google stated that

” We will begin using page experience as part of our ranking system beginning in mid-June 2021. However, page experience won’t play its full role as part of this system until the end of August.”

What is the page experience update?

There was a lot of information coming out regarding what will be included in this update. Goggle’s new updates are more user/visitor eccentric.

Google focuses more on user experience on a particular page. That’s why Google included Core web vital as the main ranking factor of a website. Other signals are a subset of ranking factor such as:

  • Mobile Usability
  • Security Issues
  • HTTPS Usage
  • AD experience

What is Core Web vitals?

Google Core Web Vitals consists of three matrices:

LCP (Largest contentful paint)

FID (First Input Delay)

CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift)

LCP (Largest contentful paint)

LCP is the amount of time that content elements take to become interactive.

  1. LCP less or equal than 2.5 seconds is good
  2. LCP less between 4 seconds requires improvement.
  3. LCP greater than 4 seconds is poor.

FID (First Input Delay)

The moment a user first interacts with your page at the moment the browser responds to that interaction.

  1. FID less or equal than 100 MilliSeconds is good
  2. FID less between 100 and 300 MilliSeconds requires improvement.
  3. FID greater than 300 MilliSeconds is poor.

CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift)

It measures the total time of layout shift during the page life span.

  1. CLS less or equal than 0.1 seconds is good
  2. FID less between 0.1 and 0.25 seconds requires improvement.
  3. FID greater than 0.25 seconds is poor.

Ranking factors in page experience Update:

Mobile Usability:

Google will rank all the pages that provide a user-friendly experience on mobile.

Security Issues:

Google will penalize all the pages from the search history if there is any security issue found on a page.

HTTPS:

All the pages should have an SSL certificate

AD experience:

Ads on the site should not irritate or distract the user.

Currently, these updates are only for mobile user. It will affect rankings for desktop user later.
